How to get started with field hockey

Hockey is big in the Netherlands and is played at clubs, on artificial turf, in teams by age and level. Adults can often join a recreational team, even as a beginner.

1. Pick a club near youThe list above shows who each club is for and whether it offers a trial training. You can often borrow a stick for the first trainings.
2. Ask for a trial trainingYou train along once or a few times with a group at your level, before you decide. Write to the club in English if you don't speak Dutch.
3. Become a member if you like itThe club places you in a team. Membership fees differ per club and are usually paid per season.
